Advice and representation for individuals
LLPs and Partnerships
At BDBF, we have extensive experience working with individuals at the start of their partnership career and beyond. We understand the complexities surrounding partnership law, LLP law and employment law, and we work closely with top ranked regulatory or other specialist lawyers when needed to ensure the rights and entitlements of our clients are protected. If things go wrong, we appreciate how distressing this can be, and our expert advisers will guide you through the process and work with you to achieve the right outcome for you.
What can we advise on?
Our areas of expertise include:
- Helping you to understand the structure of the partnership you have been invited to join, whether on promotion or through lateral hire, including reviewing and explaining the impact of LLP Agreement terms and Deeds of Adherence.
- Managing the personal transition from employment into partnership, advising on the new risks and opportunities within a partnership role as well as the new expectations on you as a partner in the business.
- Reviewing and negotiating complex reward and remuneration packages, with a focus on achieving favourable upfront terms for you and understanding your predicted progression over time.
- Working with you through the challenges of a demanding position as a partner, including burnout, stress and any conditions impacting you at work such as neurodiversity.
- Navigating processes to protect your rights and your career if things go wrong, such as underperformance or misconduct procedures, either advocating on your behalf or advising you in the background.
- Advising you on the rights and claims available to you, including discrimination and whistleblowing rights or challenging partnership decisions, including adverse remuneration decisions.
- Where necessary, bringing legal proceedings to enforce your rights or resolving disputes confidentially.
- Negotiating partner exits when the time comes to move on, including financial terms and release from restrictive covenants to allow you to take your clients or team with you.
Our team of expert employment and partnership lawyers provide strategic advice focused on prioritising you and the career you have built, whatever your sector and whatever stage of partnership you have reached.
